messi by name, dotty by nature
by markdivision2
Lionel Messi – football superstar, living legend at 25, quite possibly the greatest player to ever lace up a boot, and walking style disaster area. Seriously, did not one of his managers, entourage or even girlfriends have a word in his ear about the spotty D&G abomination he chose to sport to his fourth(!) consecutive World Player of the Year award this week? To be fair Lionel has form in this field, and while it’s not unreasonable to expect someone so wildly talented in one area to be bereft everywhere else, surely this would never have happened if ex-Barca manager super suave Pep Guardiola (below) was still on board. By contrast, no one ever looked quite as cool while winning it all like Pep.
I understand the desire to step outside the norm and make a statement, as he so often does with startling regularity on the football pitch, but traditional black tie is what it is for a reason – It Works. A well-fitted black or white dinner jacket will transform the most mundane of men into James Bond in the right light, which is why it’s been tried and tested and never found wanting. If you really must and can afford custom made, move ever so slightly into a deep dark navy, which some will tell you looks even better than black under artificial light, but really, spots??? It’s enough to make you as dizzy as the defenders he regularly ties in perfect knots, like so many dotty matching bow ties…
Congrats Lionel – you are quite possibly now the greatest player ever, but maybe keep the creativity for the pitch, and leave the dazzling experiments where they belong – the final third of the pitch.

Pithy and right on the mark as always
